Acting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced Thursday that the embassy and all consulates of his country in the United States will close. Maduro broke the diplomatic ties with the US before, because Washington recognized Juan Guaido, who declared himself the interim president.
“I have decided to call back all the diplomatic personnel (…) and to close our embassy and all our consulates in the United States,” Maduro told the Supreme Court. He accused Washington of having prompted Guaido to commit a coup.
The Venezuelan president said that he was welcoming a ‘dialogue’ with the opposition in his country. ‘Talking and listening with each other, to understand each other (…) of course I agree,’ says Maduro.
